First Church Family:
I pray that you are enjoying the summer in these beautiful foothills. God’s bounty is rolling in from the farms and family gardens. The seeds planted this spring have turned into vegetables and fruit.
Paul talks about it in 1 Corinthians, and turns the conversation into a promise of eternal life:
What you sow does not come to life unless it dies.
And as for what you sow,
you do not sow the body that is to be,
but a bare seed,
perhaps of wheat or of some other grain.
But God gives it a body as He has chosen,
and to each kind of seed its own body…
It is sown a physical body,
it is raised a spiritual body.
(15:36-38, 44a)
What a beautiful metaphor!
Several volunteer opportunities need us:
Work on our Habitat House continues. Several members of our church family have done the lion-share of work for us. Please consider volunteering at 2614 Friendswood Street on Saturday mornings at 8:00AM. Our Russell Beaver would love to hear from you about that.
Vacation Bible School is just three weeks away! Erica Murphy and Tara Blake could use additional volunteers. Once again, it only requires a three-hour commitment over four mornings in early August. Please be in touch with them if you can help. Our children are worthy of our commitment.
Yokefellow needs our help to feed the poor. Executive director Sharon Harmon has asked that we donate white rice, dried pinto beans, and 16-ounce jars of peanut butter to help them meet summer demands. Bring the food to the church, and we will weigh and deliver it. Our goal is 2,000 pounds of food in July. We have always responded to the needs around us. Let’s continue to follow Jesus in His commitment to feed the poor.
I love our community and our church! Hope to see you Sunday at 10:00AM in the Christian Life Center!
Blessings on you,
Pastor Dave
