First Church Family: I pray that you are enjoying the end of summer. Though of course time moves on, this summer has seemed to move most quickly. Teachers and school staff members are already on the job, and local public school children are in class as of Monday, August 28. Our prayers are with them. For the first time, earlier this year, we made the decision to combine services across the summer at 10:00am. That of course did several things:…
Happening @ FUMC
First Church Family: Wow, what a week it’s been! I know it must seem that I begin much correspondence in such a way, but it is true. Last week, we shared God’s love with both children (45 of them) and youth and adult counselors through our Vacation Bible School program: “Stellar.” All involved marveled at God’s creation of the vast and wonderful universe! And all learned stories of Jesus: with Zacchaeus, with the people who welcomed the Master into Jerusalem on Palm…
Community Outreach
First Church Family: Please notice the offerings below, in relation to Yokefellow’s Drive-Thru Food Drive on Saturday, and also the request for volunteers on July 14 for the Blackberry Festival. I’m planning to be a part of both of those efforts and hope we have good First Methodist responses. Also, please know that we continue to be needed (especially on Saturday mornings) to volunteer at our Habitat House project (2614 Friendswood – off of 321A South). This Sunday…
A Transformed Day
First Church Family: I pray that you are well. I heard a devotion this morning about the fact that we all will have to endure suffering for one reason or another, because, like it or not, it is part of life. And that the antidote to allowing it to defeat us is to love one another. I have to say that the devotion transformed my day! If you weren’t able to be with us on Sunday for Confirmation, please…
Activity Packed Weekend
First Church Family, I pray you are doing well. We are still basking in God’s Easter season’s blessings. This weekend is going to be activity packed. I want you to know of several things in which you might want to participate. On Saturday morning at 8:00AM, volunteers from our church will gather at our Habitat site, 2614 Friendswood, Lenoir, to work on the house until noon. At 10:00AM our church will provide a break-time snack. At 9:00AM, on that same…
C.A.S.T. Program
RETURNING WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 8, @ 3:00pm Due to staffing transitions in our Wednesday C.A.S.T. program, C.A.S.T. is temporarily discontinued. We will be back up and running in February. Please check your email for further notices. ~ Pastor Dave and Staff at FUMC
September News
First Church Family, I certainly love September, but wow is it busy! Please notice everything in this issue of the DOME. Much important information is included. Be sure to file it away and/or paste it to the front of your refrigerator. In worship, during the first half of September, we will continue to explore the faith of Heroes of the Bible, with Moses, David, and Jonathan as our focus. Our official Back-to-Church Sunday will be September 18 (as it will…
Regular Worship Schedule
First Church Family, I pray that this weekly email newsletter finds you keenly aware of God’s blessings. That is not always the thing we think about first when waking, but when that is my focus, it certainly makes my day more fulfilling. What a week we just finished, after spending much time with 33 children and a dozen youth during Vacation Bible School! Thanks goes to everyone who had a part to play in that wonderful experience, including a number of adult…
This Week at FUMC
First Church Family: I pray that you are well. Our youth and adults returned from BigStuf in Panama City, Florida on Tuesday evening. I must tell you that it was all that it was said to be: incredible worship and instruction for the students, tremendous instruction for all of us youth leaders, great small group time, and recreation on the beach. We have a wonderful group of kids, led by our graduating seniors: Molly Triplett and Cary Carpenter, and they participated fully. Our youth leaders, Sonya Triplett…
Three Things…
Three Things From Pastor Dave Eleven of us leave the church Friday morning at 5:30AM for BigStuf Christian Youth Camp in Panama City, Florida. Please remember: Meredith Cline and Sonya Triplett (who, with me, will be counselors on the trip) along with: Reagan Cline, Molly Triplett, Cary Carpenter, Dillan Earp, Cody Barlow, Mason Gaetes, Ross Watts, and Zach Crowe. Many of you have supported the trip financially. Please pray for the growth of our faith and for our safety. Secondly, on Sunday July 10 at 4:00PM in the afternoon, our…
Youth Sunday
First Church Family: I pray that you are enjoying the end of spring. As the song from “Carousel” chronicles: “June is bustin’ out all over…” My gardens are growing, and who knows, I may have a ripe tomato by the 4th of July! Please remember the important things that are happening this month. This Sunday, June 5, we will celebrate Youth Sunday and honor our graduating high school students: Molly Triplett and Cary Carpenter. Theirs is a small class, but the two…
FCY Fundraiser Lunch
First Church Family: I love this time of year, when the mornings are cool and the days are warm. I’ve already “put out” a number of vegetables in the garden, and am hoping we don’t have a killing freeze! This Sunday is the first day of May, and the month of May is one of the busiest months of the year for us, with Mother’s Day, school year ending programs, graduations, weddings, etc.. This Sunday is especially big for two reasons.…
