Dear First Church Family,
I pray this newsletter finds you in good health and spirits. This past week has had its share of bad news: chaos and death in Afghanistan after our troop withdrawal, pain and loss in Haiti in the after-math of a powerful earthquake, flash flooding in western North Carolina and Tennessee that took lives and destroyed property, and rising COVID numbers in our community and state.
I shared recently that September is one of my favorite months of the year, with the weather beginning to change and football starting back, but our community is already experiencing cancellations and postponements due to virus risks.
We will weather this and every other storm, but many are weary of dealing with a virus that doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon. Our hearts go out to medical professionals who once again will be placing themselves in harm’s way while they treat the sick.
At FUMC, though, we too are exhausted from dealing with the unknown; we will continue to take necessary
precautions to protect members of our church family, old and young. We do ask, when you are at our church for
worship or other meetings, that you mask and remain socially distant.
Please pray for God’s protection to cover our students, educators, school staff, and medical workers as school ramps up over the fall. And let’s use this time to recommit ourselves to our love for God and one another.
Blessings and love,
Pastor Dave
