First Church Family,
I pray that you are enjoying seeing March flowers burst through the ground. Spring will be here soon!
I know it’s early, but I want to share several things with you about Lent, which begins on Wednesday, March 2, and continues through Saturday, April 9.
A service of Dispensation of Ashes will be held on Ash Wednesday, at 6:00pm in our Sanctuary. All persons, regardless of age or membership, are invited.
Our Lenten worship theme will be: “The Bible: Full of Failures”.
All of our worship will be directing us to a powerful experience of Holy Week, beginning on Palm/Passion Sunday, and extending through Easter Sunday, April 17.
Please put the date of Palm/Passion Sunday, April 10, on your calendars now, and try to work around it with anything else you are planning. On that Sunday, in our Sanctuary, thirteen of our men, along with wonderful music from our choir will present a Last Supper Tableau.
During that program, Jesus will get His disciples’ attention and announce that one of them will betray Him; and after shock and consternation, each one will share his experience with the Master through a monologue asking: “Is it who will betray You, Master?”
We have invited Trinity UMC to join us for that service. Several of their men will represent disciples.
Trinity’s choir, ushers, and other volunteers will share in leading the worship service and presentation of the program in our Sanctuary at 10:00am.
I can’t stress the power of this experience enough. You, your parents, children, and grandchildren will learn more about the New Testament in one hour than you can imagine!
We will remember the Last Supper again, later in the week in a Maundy Thursday service. The service will begin at 6:00pm and end with the Celebration of Holy Communion.
The next day, Good Friday, we are planning something really, really special. The details haven’t been worked out and can’t be announced as of yet; but I can’t wait to share them with you!
God is good and powerfully alive in our midst. Let’s continue to listen to His voice together.
Blessings and love,
Pastor Dave
