First Church Family:
I pray that you are enjoying the summer sunshine after the rains of previous weeks as much as I am.
Please note the following important updates:
1) Our food drive for Yokefellow has been wildly successful. Our initial goal was to collect and donate 1,100 pounds of rice, pinto beans, and peanut butter so that our ministry partner could feed the poor this summer when needs are greater.
As of the end of last week, you had brought 2,545 pounds of those items to the church; and they have been delivered! Thank you for responding as you always do to the needs of our community. I don’t know of another congregation as committed to serving the needs of the poor as we are. In an email to me this week, Yokefellow’s executive director, Sharon
Harmon wrote: “Thank you! This is a grand gesture of love and caring, of feeding!” I will provide an update in our worship service Sunday morning.
We will continue to collect food for Yokefellow through the beginning of next week. However, Yokefellow has asked that we substitute pasta for rice going forward, as we have filled their bins with rice!
2) Vacation Bible School begins Monday morning. Our Ericka Murphy and Tara Blake have planned a great week for our children. Be sure to invite young family members, friends, and neighbors to be with us as we share stories of Jesus with the children.
3) Work on the Habitat house continues. Come out to help at the 3416 Friendswood location on Saturday morning if you can.
I hope to see you in church Sunday! Remember that we meet in the CLC at 10:00AM.
Blessings on you,
Pastor Dave
