Letter from the Pastor: Hurricane Helene #2

Letter from the Pastor: Hurricane Helene #2

First Church Family,

We continue to offer prayers for our brothers and sisters in areas decimated by
Hurricane Helene. Every day there are more stories of those who lost their lives in the storm. Many of you have connections in the areas who were worst hit. Three of my niece’s neighbors drowned in Swannanoa.

Just a reminder, we will receive a special offering for Helene on Sunday. And we will also be collecting needed supplies for delivery to Boone, Hendersonville (for the Asheville area) Spruce Pine, and western Avery County.

Items people have been most requesting include:

Diapers (both adult and baby sizes 1 through 3 preferred)
Wipes
Batteries of all sizes (but especially AA and AAA)
Flashlights
Feminine Hygiene (especially panty liners)
Pet food
Baby formula
Water
Snacks or high protein food
Children’s resources (coloring books, activities, kid friendly snacks)

There will also an Emergency Response Training offered by the conference. Only certified volunteers will be able to go into affected areas for the foreseeable future. I will get information to you about this as I receive details.

Please remain in prayer for those who are recovering from Helene.

Blessings on you,

Pastor Dave
