First Church Family:
Several weeks ago, we were in the midst of what seemed to be a drought; and now, so much rain. Our prayers are with those on and near our state’s beautiful coast, as water from Debbie pours sin.
Over the past weeks, we have made our thematic focus in worship to be the extraordinary women of faith God has used, as recorded in the Bible. The mother of all of humankind, Eve, was our first subject, followed by Naomi, Ruth, and Rahab.
On Sunday we will be reminded of the story of Esther, the beautiful, brave, and brilliant Jewish queen of the Persian Empire. The story is captured in the nine-chapter Book of Esther.
The Old Testament book is a tale of twists and turns, ups and downs, ironies and reversals, and a mostly happy ending, at least for the Jews. The book is a quick, riveting read. It would be helpful for you to take time to read before Sunday so that you might better understand how a beautiful young Jewish woman became Queen of the Persian empire; and saved her people. It’s a story only God could imagine.
Our joint services will continue through August and on through September 8. On Sunday, September 15 we will return to our regular school-year schedule.
That Sunday is called nationally: Back to Church Sunday. You will be hearing of our plans leading up to September 15 in the coming weeks.
May God continue to bless both you and our congregation.
