First Church Family,
I pray that you are weathering the winter cold this week. From Friday night through most of the day Sunday, the temperature in our area will not move above freezing. We pray for the poor and homeless among us. We made a large financial donation to Yokefellow Thursday, helping our ministry partner serve the poor.
FUMC was richly blessed in 2023. Your stewardship enabled us to fund all of our church’s ministries and finish in the black for the year. Thank you for your commitment to our LORD Jesus Christ and His church. God was certainly glorified by our efforts to bring His children closer to Him.
Two upcoming events focus on our church’s service to the local poor. First, on Sunday, February 4, at 1:00PM you are invited to a chili lunch and open house on the grounds of the Habitat for Humanity house that we helped build last year. The family of Victory Harshaw moved into their new home in December. Our hostess, Kay Lanier, is coordinating the lunch. Please, contact her if you would be willing to prepare a pot of chili or a side dish for that event.
Then, on Tuesday, February 27, we will host a Pancake Day for Local Missions in our Christian Life Center. We will invite more than 1,000 elementary-age students to eat pancakes with us during the morning hours (10:30AM – 1:00PM) and then will serve breakfast for dinner to all who would join us that evening (4:30PM – 7:00PM). Our Benett Brittain and I are coordinating that event and we need you to help out, either by helping underwrite the meal for the elementary students, volunteering to help serve pancakes that day, and/or selling tickets to the event. More information will be shared in the days to come.
God is strong among us. Thank you for following His lead with me.
God bless you,
Pastor Dave
