First Church Family:
I love this time of year, when the mornings are cool and the days are warm. I’ve already “put out” a number of vegetables in the garden, and am hoping we don’t have a killing freeze!
This Sunday is the first day of May, and the month of May is one of the busiest months of the year for us, with Mother’s Day, school year ending programs, graduations, weddings, etc..
This Sunday is especially big for two reasons. First, our Children’s Sunday School program is re-launching, using Godly Play as a curriculum. The program provides instruction for children from age 3 through age 12. Angie Meadows and Tara Hatton have recently been certified as teachers. Marable Southall-Vess has much experience with Godly Play and has donated a number of resources for it; and Ericka Murphy, our Children’s Sunday School Superintendent, has been involved in the start-up, and also hopes to be certified. Please let children know about Sunday’s start-up. We will have classes through May, and then take a break until September.
Also, this Sunday, plan to eat with us in the CLC after the 11:00AM service. Our First Church Youth (FCY) will be serving spaghetti and salad, as they try to raise funds for their BigStuf youth trip in late June. Our Kay Lanier will be directing their work. A bake sale will accompany the meal. Tickets are not being sold. Donations will be received. The event is a win/win endeavor, as we will enjoy a wonderful meal and the fellowship that we have missed during the pandemic.
Next week, I will share where we are with our Habitat House project.
God is with us! Praise Him!
