This is also called the Office Building
The offices are located here. You may enter on Church Street. There’s a parking lot with a porte cochere attached to the building, and a ramp leading down from it to the entrance.
Once inside, you’ll notice a bulletin board on your left, showing some of the things going on in our church. Moving down the hall, the secretary’s office and workroom are on your left and the financial secretary and youth minister’s office is on your right.
This clock hangs on the wall next to the office. It’s claim-to-fame is that it once hung in the sanctuary between the doors to the narthex. I suppose it became a nuisance to pastors who had a lot to say and didn’t want to be rushed. Today, it’s a nuisance to the office staff because of it’s loud ticking. So it remains unwound with the wrong time on its face.
This painting of Christ praying in the Garden of Gethsemane will be directly in front of you once you pass the offices. To your left will be the stairs going to the third floor. If you prefer to take the elevator, it is down the hall on your right.
The red books on the lowboy are copies of Genoise H Davidson’s book, One Hundred Fifty Years of Methodism on Church Street in Town of Lenoir. It is an invaluable resource for those who would like to learn more about our church’s history. You can find a copy in the church library.
Turning the corner to your right, you will find yourself next a pew from an earlier sanctuary. On down the hall on your right is the pastor’s office. Lining the hall on either side are photos of our members and further down, various pastors through the years.
If you look straight ahead, you’ll see the choir room. But before you get to it, you’ll notice an elevator at the end of a short hallway on your right. Across from it are stairs going down to the choir loft and sanctuary. Continuing down the stairs to the first floor are the nursery and a hallway leading to Robins Preschool and the Christian Life Center.
But back up on the second floor: if you turn left in front of the choir room, you’ll find an old pump organ and these stained glass windows, along with others that came out of a chapel that used to be under the choir room. They’re throughout the church, showing scenes from the life of Christ and donated by believers who came before us.
At the end of that hallway is a door leading into the Staples Center, the building next to the Christian Life Center. It contains our library and archival room, children’s music room, Sunday school classrooms, and, in the basement, the Youth Group’s hangout.
Our church is full of winding hallways full of interesting history. Enjoy exploring!
